A Bureau Director, an acquaintance of my friend, came to visit me to ask about his career. Below is the Qi Men chart constructed for that time.

The entire chart is in a Fan Yin (反吟 - fǎn yín) state, which signifies clash/reversal and inevitably indicates some kind of trouble or incident.

We look at the Day Stem Gui (癸) on the Heaven Plate. It falls into the Palace of the Chief Deity (值符 - Zhi Fu) and is also in the “Officer” (临官) phase [sometimes translated as “Entering Service”]. This definitely indicates that the person is a leader. (Indeed, he was the actual Bureau Director).

However, the Heaven Plate Gui (癸) falls into Emptiness (空亡). The inquirer came to my home as a guest, creating the image of “having Heaven Qi but lacking Earth Qi” (see another post). This is interpreted as having a position but no real authority or power.
